PSA: Formex Bathes Us With A Golden Meteorite Shower

It is not that kind of golden and definitely not that kind of shower. I am referring to their new release, the Rose Gold Meteorite Dial, the “Space Gold”.

I know you came here expecting dirty content! Shame on you! Yes, the title is incorrect because it should be “Meteor Shower” but then it wouldn’t allude to the “Meteorite dial”, semantics.

What is it and how much?

Meteorite dials seem to almost be a staple on each watch brand now. Almost everyone has done it. But Formex is not new to this. Remember that cool Leggera they released some time ago? Yes, this one. What is cool to me is that they keep innovating. I gotta say, this golden one is really cool. They have been on a roll. The Collective Radiant Bronze dial, the Malachite dial, now this? Wow.

Yeah, they are cool but how is this different? Well, the dial is thicker and allows the carving of a date window. The dial is soldered to the movement instead of glued. How do they service it? I don’t know, message them on Instagram. But let me know after because I am also curious. In case you were wondering what they use for the golden look? This is an 18K gold plating.

Has someone done this type of meteorite dial before? Yeah… Someone actually has. Omega has a rose gold dial Constellation. I just googled it… But it is the Moonshine Gold for $46K or the two tone bracelet for $16K. Omega uses a PVD treated dial, compared to the electroplated used by Formex. The Formex starting at $1,890, does not look like a terrible deal. Now, what kind of coating is better? I’ll leave that up to you and will just point that PVD is a newer, more environmentally friendly, maybe more uniform process. Based on cost and application, does it even matter? I don’t know.

Availability

Me, like a lot of watch nerds, cannot buy a watch every week. Specially with how often new releases come out now. I have to be selective and methodical in my purchase approach. Yes, sometimes FOMO strikes. But most of my watches are the ones I have wanted for a while.

Yes, the “Limited Edition” thing has also been overplayed, and it might be a way to make sure they sell all of their product. No shame on that, it is a business after all. But in my case, I do appreciate the one that stays in the brand’s collection. A lot of us cannot buy all the watches all the time, it is reality for some people.

The Golden Shower, I mean the Space Gold is not limited or at least it didn’t say on the Press Release. What it did say was that the first 100 units are numbered and ready to be delivered in early July of 2024. Head over to the Formex site HERE.

You know, I don’t get paid for these things. But I do appreciate receiving the Press Releases from some brands, and because I don’t get paid, I do the ones I like and skip the ones I don’t. If it is not fun, it won’t be shown. This one is fun. Formex, has kept the fun going.

Thanks again for stopping by,

DL
