What is the big deal about this? Well, as you might have heard, car companies are making hard switch to the electric side of things. It is exciting to see that some are still investing in new Internal Combustion (IC) Engines. This new engine from Honda, is powering the new Honda Pilot. And as many rumors around the web are whispering, it might make it to other models also.
From the hondainfocenter.com website: “The 2023 Pilot is powered by a new aluminum-alloy 3.5 liter V-6 featuring direct injection, dual-overhead camshafts, 24-valves and the Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) system.” Yeah and? What does this mean to us? First, it is a 6 cylinder engine, not another 4 cylinder turbo. It is a V shaped engine, not an inline 6. Which can translate to a lower engine and more room in the front.
What about dual-overhead camshafts, 24-valves and the Variable Cylinder Management? This is the known DOHC in modern engines. These engines have four valves on top of the cylinder that let’s more air in and exhaust fumes out. It makes the car more efficient. Honda’s VCM system let’s the vehicle shut down cylinders to make the car more efficient during cruising speeds.
