Test Drive: Trying on the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date and Oris Carl Brashear

Hello again from another Test Drive. This time I want to introduce a couple of Oris I was able to test drive. First time I get to see, and wear Oris watches… and man, let me tell you! Oris watches are something else. I have enjoyed them from afar but trying them on, definitely reels you in to want one.

The first watch I’d like to introduce is the Carl Brashear. This particular Oris diver is made out of bronze and it comes with one of Erika’s Originals straps. The combination is really good and so easy to wear. The hardware from the strap is also made out of bronze which is nice. If you want more information about these straps, visit Erika’s website here.

Oris Carl Brashear on the wrist.

The next watch I was able to try on was the Oris Big Crown pointer date. Regarding this specific model, I was able to try two variations. One, the stainless steel version with the blue dial, and the second, the bronze version with the green dial. The movement of these watches is a Sellita SW 200-1 based movement. What I have always liked about these watches is the complication of the pointer date. It is not the most interesting complication but it makes the watch different and more symmetric.

Overall, I would definitely recommend these watches due to size, and how wearable they are. The low profile of the pointer date makes it really attractive, as well as the 40mm size. It is very legible watch and it looks really good on the leather straps. My favorite was definitely the Carl Brashear. This diver watch sits at 40mm also, which makes it really wearable. It also has a low profile, definitely not a chunky diver. The strap combination was a great choice, as well as the material. You can tell the bronze looks good brand new, and I bet it will look as good with some patina on it.

I hope you find these quick posts useful, let me know your thoughts,

DL
